2026 Students Pursuing Aerospace Careers and Engineering (SPACE) Camp- ROBOTICS is aimed at fostering long-term interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) by providing students with an engaging, hands-on, educational opportunity. The residential camp will be held from Monday, July 6th - Friday, July 10th on-campus at Fairmont State University. This year, we are sponsored by the First Energy Foundation, EQT Foundation, and the WV Space Grant Consortium.
SPACE Camp is a five-day program offered by the Fairmont State SciTech Education Resource Center (ERC), and hosted at Fairmont State University, targeting rising 8th grade - graduating 12th grade students that covers a unique STEM theme that changes every year. The camp is led by Education Specialists Dr. Todd Ensign and John Holbrook along with college interns sponsored by the WV Space Grant Consortium, and AmeriCorps VISTA sponsored by the REC Foundation. Regardless of your experience, education, or future aspirations, if you are interested in STEM and interested in making new and lasting connections with like-minded students, this is the camp for you!
Participants will:
be introduced to NASA, and other robotic missions from engineers and scientists,
learn to design, build and program multiple robotic platforms,
learn about competitive robotics programs you can start or join in your own school,
become proficient in CAD and 3D printing to produce robot components,
assemble and program a robot you can take home,
travel to WVU's Robotics Laboratories and meet engineers designing a wide range of robots,
visit and tour Aurora Flight Sciences facility in Bridgeport, WV and see their robotic warehouse,
design a mission patch,
have FUN!
The camp will feature NASA scientists, engineers, and educators and will be filled with stimulating science, engineering, and team-building activities to foster future innovation and provide professional development.
